So, here are some things that are officially happening in my life:
1. I am officially going to Disney for a week in a half in March! I'll be working at GMR during that time and I'm also going to an Entertainment audition while I'm there. Again.
2. I am officially moving to Florida for good in August. Well, by "for good" I mean "until the next year when I (hopefully) go to art school," but I'll have a car then, so it'll be about as for good as you can get.
3. I am officially trying to get in shape for my audition, again. Ha! Ha! We'll see how long this lasts.
4. I am officially really, really wishing I were moving to Florida right this second. But! -
5. I am officially going in for an interview at the Library Center tomorrow! So hopefully if I get the job that will help keep my mind off pining over Disney until it's actually time to go.
Okay, I have to say this is the weirdest thing that has ever happened to me on the internet. The other day I was told by somebody on Gaia that they'd seen a picture of who they thought was me somewhere else online.
It turns out that somebody used a picture of me with Aladdin at Disney World to start a thread about Disney in the cosplay forum at 4chan. Seriously, guys.... WHATTHECRAP. I'm pretty sure the only place I had this photo posted was on Facebook, but I suppose it wouldn't be too hard for it to get out.
Mostly, I'm just trying to figure out whether this is creepy or hilarious... I think it's both. XD
I was all alone in Florida at this time last year, so this was my first waking-up-on-Christmas-morning-with-the-family Christmas in what feels like ages. It was wonderful. I was worried because I wasn't really "feeling Christmassy" over the past few weeks but really... that's such a dumb thing to try to do. You just kind of have to let it come.
I'm so glad I got to be home for Christmas... I really do love my family and enjoy spending time with them and I know that's a rare blessing. We might not get as many presents as a lot of kids but it always seems like more than enough because everything always means so much more.
But speaking of presents!!! um yeah... I got a freakin IPOD NANO!!!! 2GB, so I kind of had to pick and choose my music, but I think I'll survive somehow. Anna got me A Series of Unfortunate Events on DVD, and Laurel got me The Thief and the Cobbler, in this really super amazing special edition with a POP-UP CASTLE in the front of the SLIPCOVER. yeah. amazing. My parents also got me a pair of really nice sewing scissors, and a Narnia calendar, and a plastic case and radio transmitter for the iPod. Oh, and a wonderful assortment of leg coverings: two kinds of stripey kneesocks, one pair of argyle kneesocks, a pair of argyle legwarmers, and a pair of houndstooth leggings. yup, houndstooth. So I am all set!!!!
Merry Christmas, everybody, it's sure been a good one. I love you all!!!!
Last night our next-door neighbor's dog escaped from their yard and we found it running around in ours. We went and told them and they brought it back in, and we thought that was that, but two of our cats had been outside. We called and called and called until 2 AM but neither of them came in.
This morning we found Allie out in the backyard where we hadn't been able to see her in the dark last night. Tinkerbell is still nowhere to be found but we're afraid it probably got her too.
Allie was only four. She was strong and healthy and SUCH an awesomely odd cat. She would chew on everything and she liked to have her tummy rubbed and she never really purred... she whuffled instead. And I know you're not supposed to have favorites but... she was mine. She was my special kitty and I was her special person and now she's gone.
Rest in peace Boopsie-Shmoo... and Tinkerbell, please come home soon.
thank you for reading and I hope I haven't depressed you too much.
Which means it's National Novel Writing Month, which means I'm writing at LEAST 1,667 words every single day. And this year, I'll be posting my day-by-day writing progress in my writing LJ account, superkecky. Boy, it's been quite a while since I've used that account; it's high time I dusted it off.
Anyways, the SuperKecky account is friends-only, so if you'd like to read my novel-in-progress, just go ahead and add me. :D
I had class on Tuesday night from 5:30 to 8:30, but my teacher let us out early, because we didn't have much to do, and (as she said) "So you can all go trick-or-treating."
"Ha! Ha!" I laughed with the rest of the class, heartily enough that no one would guess that until the day before I'd been planning on trick-or-treating with my younger sister and her friends. Then Anna got sick and Annissa had to work and I remembered I had class and things disintegrated rather.
So I drove home around 6:45ish, watching small children run around and feeling in general very morose and sorry for myself. I mean, for Halloween last year I was dancing at PI with my buddies from work and getting hit on by random drunk strangers! You can't be surprised that this year was a letdown.
Imagine my jubilation when I walked into the house only to see Laurel and Patrick dressed to the hilt (literally, in Patrick's case) and ready to go wander around Walmart in costume!!! I dashed off to my room and was ready in ONLY five minutes (despite what Laurel might tell you) and off we went.
And here is what I dressed up as. AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
Here is a nice picture of me and Laurel with Laurel being a hoochie as usual: She even stole my old Kiss Me Kate costume!!! whore.
Oh, and to all my Disney friends, don't worry, I have no intention of showing up at the next face audition in this outfit. :P
P.S. NaNoWriMo has started! I'm only slightly behind!!!
I really, really, really, really miss Disney World. Like... really. I dunno, it's just been hitting me especially hard lately, as the semester wears on and I try to figure out what to do after these classes end.
I want to be at Epcot for the Food & Wine Festival. I want to go dancing at PI on Halloween. I want to watch the gradual drop in temperature and humidity and bemoan the lack of a real fall. I want to have to be careful not to step on five geckos with every step I take down the sidewalk. I want to go prancing around the Magic Kingdom whenever I darn well feel like it. And I want to have a big ol' crazy group of crazy friends to do it all with me.
So basically... I miss Disney World. And I'll be trotting back at the first available opportunity, which will hopefully be over Christmas break (but after Christmas), and next summer at the very least.
after years of moping about dreaming of being an animator, but doing surprisingly little actual animating, I finally got around to bringing some of my drawings to life.
I love this and I need to do this for the rest of my life. the end.
(already posted on xanga several days ago but I forgot to cross-post here til just now.)
I really really need it and I promise I won't spend it on anything stupid and I'll never ask for anything again, really.
I just want to go to art school. I always wanted to go to art school, I never wanted anything else, I cried at the idea of going anywhere else, and I can't stand it here much longer.
Augh, I'm sorry I'm such a terrible blogger, but hey. If YOU were having as much fun as I had this summer you wouldn't be worrying about capturing every detail online either.
So, my summer. Wow. First of all, my job. This is what I did every day: I drive a big vehicle full of people around and around a track. I talk about a bunch of movies. Then I talk about some more movies. Then some bad guys come and chase me away but I then I come back! I talk about some more movies and crack some really lame jokes. I wave to the munchkins, talk a little bit more, and then tell everyone goodbye, then start all over again. And I got PAID for this.
The people I worked with were just really truly wonderful - they were so fun and friendly and make you feel like you CAN be a real movie-rider-for-life even if you've only worked there a couple weeks. I made so many awesome friends, both in the workplace and out, that were my instant buddies and I know will still be my buddies whenever I go back.
I got over any trace of stage fright that might have remained deep in my subconscious. I danced like no one was watching. I'm pretty sure I went on at least one date. (not sure about the others, but it's something, right?) I took chances and plunged into things I might have been too afraid, too boxed in, to think of doing before. I was crazy, I was outgoing, I was, somehow, so much more ME than I've ever been before.
It was, in short, nothing less than fabulous, and I've vowed not to lose what I gained over the past few (so very few!) months. I'll be back to WDW as soon as I can, but until then I'll just have to bring the magic home with me. :)
Since we checked into our apartment late, we had to do most of the usual checking-in stuff the next day, which included finding out where we were going to work. I was SO nervous about my work location because they don't tell you until you get down there, and I could have gotten stuck somewhere really crappy! So I got up to the table, and the guy sits and looks at his laptop for a while, then says, "Wow. You lucked out." I did? "Yeah. You're going to be working at MGM in the Icon area, which includes Muppetvision, Indiana Jones, aaand... The Great Movie Ride." !!!! Did I mention to anyone that GMR was my EXACT first choice???
They gave me a number to call that day for my coordinator, so I went right home and called. She asked me a few questions, and then told me that there were several levels of spieling and asked what I was comfortable with. I said that I was fine with a high-spiel role and would love to do something that involved some performance. Then she said, "So, have you ever been on the Great Movie Ride?" "Well, I've been on it once." "Well, you're going to be going on it a lot, because that's where I'm putting you." !!!!!
I sort of danced around the apartment for a while.
BUT the excitement for the day was not over, as the face-character auditions, which I'd been planning to attend for months, were that very night! That morning, I had just made a new friend named Ashley, who happens to be good friends with Alice, and she was planning to go that night to see if she could maybe make some more friends. I was so relieved to have somebody along who knew what they were doing! Alicia and Kenzie also tagged along, just for funsies.
We got to the AK wardrobe building and it was just INSANE. The line was practically out the door, and when we got our numbers, they were in the 500's. So we waited around for a while and then they called our numbers along with about 50 others. Then we waited around in the hall for even longer and then they finally let us into the Room of Judgement. Basically, everyone formed into several rows, and then we all just stood there while the judges looked at us. Just a LITTLE awkward.
When they'd looked at everyone, they called out just four numbers - and one of them was mine. Out of about 40 or 50 people!!! Everyone else left and the three other girls and I were taken to a table in a back hallway where they gave us forms to fill out for our callbacks. They ALMOST told me I couldn't come back because I was college program and had already been assigned to a different role. I was like, "But! But!! I've already been to two different auditions! I passed the other one! I'm supposed to be in entertainment anyway except for my height! I don't start training until Friday! I want to come back every summer for the rest of my life! Pleeeease!!!"
So they said that I could come back on Thursday and be fitted and do the movement audition, but IF I were to be approved, they would have to BEG to have me transferred and there was no guarantee.
That was all on Tuesday. On Wednesday, I went to Animal Kingdom and rode Everest 3 times and screamed so much that I pretty much destroyed my voice. I could still talk, but I couldn't go up high at all. This turned out to be a great mistake.
On Thursday afternoon, I went back over the AK Wardrobe building and found my way back to wait for 2:00. Then they called us in to get dressed up and I was first! I don't think I was supposed to know this right off, but I saw the paper on Tuesday night that said I was going to be fitted for Snow White. It figures! So they did my makeup and put on the wig and then I went and put on the dress. It was SO AWESOME. I had this little script to read, and I discovered that thanks to my adventures on Everest the day before, I couldn't squeak properly at all. It was terrible!
So I went in and did the little speech as well as I could, then changed back to my regular clothes. The other people who were there auditioning found out right away that they had been approved, so I kind of knew I was done for before I went back in the room. Yeah, I didn't make it. I don't know whether it was because I was just summer college program, or because I couldn't do the voice, or because I just didn't look quite right. The important thing is that I wasn't crushed. A little disappointed, maybe, but not like I would have been if I were still working in foods or anything. I mean, I still had my first-choice job waiting for me!!! And obviously getting called back is still something really special!
Next time on Adventures in the Life of Kecky: Fun at the Great Movie Ride
I know, I know, I've got all KINDS of catching up to do. Well, okay, I will try to get through the past week quickly, because I had PLENTY of adventures.
I didn't sleep at all last Friday night, because I was up all night packing. I left with my parents around 4:45 AM and we drove across town to the Greyhound station, where I was supposed to catch a 5:35 bus to St. Louis. Well, the bus was almost an hour and a half late. This was bad because my flight was supposed to leave an hour after the bus was scheduled to arrive in STL. Needless to say, I completely missed my 10:40 flight, and was put on a 4:00. So I had plenty of time to hang out in the terminal and try to take a nap. When I finally got to Minneapolis, THAT flight was delayed, so I ended up not getting into Raleigh until about 11 that night. (We were originally planning to drive to Savannah that night and spend the night with Alicia's grandpa.)
So we set off bright and early Sunday morning, planning to drive all the way to Orlando in one day and stop in Savannah for lunch. Well, Alicia had just gotten off the phone with her grandpa, who we were going to meet in about 10 minutes, when there was this loud BANG and the car started shaking uncontrollably. Thankfully I wasn't driving or else we probably would have died, but Alicia managed to pull us over and we just sort of sat at the side of the freeway in shock for a few minutes. We could see pieces of our tire scattered all down the highway behind us.
This was when we started getting lucky in a lot of random ways. Alicia's grandpa was only about 10 minutes away, and we were only sitting there for a few minutes before a guy in a AAA tow truck, who had just happened to be driving by, pulled up in front of us. He loaded up our car and drove us to Wal-mart where Alicia's grandpa and aunt (who was our age) were waiting.
It turned out that when our tire blew out, we were riding on the rim and bent the edge all out of shape. The mechanic thought maybe he could hammer it straight again, but there were a lot of cars waiting so we had to wait for almost 4 hours. After 4 hours, he put the car up, hit the rim once, and decided THAT wouldn't work. Thanks, Mr. Mechanic Man. Now, keep in mind that this was Sunday, and most other car places weren't open. And of all the places that were open, NONE of them sold rims.
So we spent the rest of the day at Alicia's grandpa's apartment, and if we had to be stranded, that was the place to do it for sure. They had this beautiful apartment with a beautiful view of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, and the weather was beautiful, and we sat out on the balcony and watched the boats go by. It was SO relaxing after all the stress about the car.
We got up at 6 the next morning while Alicia's grandpa called every car place in the city asking if they sold rims and nobody did. A few places sold sets of four, but most places had to special-order them. So we went to a junkyard! They gave us a list of cars to look for but none of them still had their rims. We had just about lost hope when we came to the very last car on the list, and lo and behold, there were 3 rims stacked inside it! We took the car to a mechanic and had the new rim put on. After all of that, it took less than an hour, then we were on our way!!!
We pulled into Vista Way at about 4 or 5, when we were hoping to check in as soon as it opened at 9 that morning. Chatham was all full, but we did get lucky and get a 6-person apartment together. So we moved in and instantly made friends with one of our new roommates, Kenzie.
Well, that's up until Monday night, and I believe I'll write the rest later.
Sooo, it's 3:30 in the morning. I haven't slept, and I'm not going to sleep, or at least for another 2 hours or so, and if I do it will be on a smelly loud bus.
I AM SO EXCITED!!!
It's going to take me a loooong time to get to Florida, but at least I will be on my way very soon!!
